Newforth Tutorial, Study Skills Training & Editorial Services

Whether you are an Advanced Higher student wishing to improve your analytical or writing skills; a Primary 5 pupil who feels they could write better stories if they understood grammar and punctuation a little better; a retired person wishing to expand their knowledge of classical literature by learning Latin or someone who wishes to explore themselves and their experiences through creative writing, Newforth can design and deliver a course at an appropriate level to meet your individual needs.

As well as weekly classes in academic writing and critical thinking, in order to address specific needs that arise within the academic year and in preparation for university, Newforth is scheduling a range of workshops to run at weekends and in the school holidays focused on introducing and improving academic skills, see our events page for more detail.

 Who...

Over the years, Fiona Mackie has been a postgraduate research student studyng with the universities of Liverpool, Dundee, Trinity St David and Oxford. Her specialisms are Latin, History, English and TEFL.

She is also a GTC registered teacher of Latin and Classical Studies.

An award winning and published author and poet, she has previously collaborated on creative writing projects, through Midlothian Council's Library Service, with writers in residence Valerie Gillies and Dilys Rose.

Should significant demand for classes arise in other areas, Newforth will respond by organising classes in local venues.
